Happy 90th Grandad

Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to dear Grandad, you look like a monkey and smell like one too. Oh if only I would be able to sing this to you today on your 90th birthday. I miss you and I miss celebrating your 90th birthday with you. It has been a hard day today being without you, it has been a hard day not ringing you up, it has been a hard day not seeing you but I know that you are having an amazing birthday in heaven. I know that you are in a better place, I know that you are with your saviour but we miss you down here and if only I could have this birthday with you.

I know that through the years you loved your birthday. You loved spending time with your family, you loved spending time with your children, you loved spending time with your grandchildren, if only now you could spend time with your great grandsons and soon to be a great granddaughter. I know that you would have your views on this covid time but it would not stop you having a birthday and heading to the news paper shop-everyday you had to go to get the paper. I still don’t know whether that was so that you could read it or that you could sleep behind it?

Today is your special day and although you may not be here with us we will remember you, we will remember how you laughed, we will remember your lame jokes, we will remember you in your cap, we will remember you walking with a stick, we will remember how you hugged us, we will remember how you listened, we will remember how you bought us sweets, we will remember how you gave each of us time, we will remember how you burnt the sausages on the BBQ, we will remember how much pride you took in your veg patch, we will remember how proud you were of us, we will remember how you were the best.

You were the best dad, the best husband, the best son and the best grandad. You gave us each time, you would teach us, you would rebuke us but most of all you taught us more about God and you taught us how to rely more and more on Him. I know that you are in such a better place and I hope that you are celebrating your 90th birthday.
