Blog 160: Letter to my future self

letter

If you were to write a letter to your younger self how would it start? What would you say? How would you feel? What encouragement would you give the younger you? How would you try and keep them going? What message would you give? What things would you say not to worry about? Throughout life there are going to be times when we are not sure what the future is going to hold. There are going to be times when we worry about the future. There are going to be times when things are not going our way. There are going to be times when we need to talk to the past self and show that things are going to be okay.

If you were to think about things about your future self what would it be? Would you want to tell them not to worry about the things coming up? Would you want to let them know that everything is going to be okay? There will be times in life when we struggle but we need to know that we have a purpose in our lives and we were put on this earth for a reason. We may not see it now or anytime in the near future but we will see it and it will be amazing when we know. It is amazing to know that we were all created differently and we will all have different experiences in life. I would want my future self these things:

Don’t look forward. It is hard not to worry and to think about the future but just take today as it comes. Life may pile on the pressure of having to deal with things in the future and not sure what it holds but you need to just breath and focus on today. We need to worry about today and the things that we need to do now rather than tomorrow. Tomorrow will look after itself and we can look after today. Looking forward can be good, especially if we are looking forward to a holiday, but don’t waste your life away by looking to the future.

See the bigger picture. In this time of life it is hard not to see the bigger picture and not to see what is going to happen but we need to focus on the bigger picture and what our life is all about. It is so easy to get caught up with the needs and worries of today and not to see how far a journey we have come. I like to think of life as a jigsaw puzzle, everyday we are fitting another piece in and at the moment we don’t feel like we can see the full picture but we have the box with it on right in front of us! Seeing the bigger picture in life can be hard and it can be challenging but we are not just here for today but for yesterday and for tomorrow too.

Be thankful. Don’t you think we should have more hours in the day to get things done? Doesn’t time fly past like anything? We need to focus on today and then we are able to look into tomorrow and see all the unlimited possibilities that it brings. Today may be hard but remember that God will get you through it and He will help you to be able to have the strength for today and as much as you need. Aren’t you blessed that you woke up today! Aren’t you blessed that you have a house to live in? Aren’t you blessed that you have people around you who love you? Today think of 5 things that you are grateful for and then tomorrow another 5 (they have to be different though). If you did that for 7 days you would soon come up with 35 things that you can be grateful for. Isn’t God amazing!

God has your back. It may seem like this life is a fight and you have people around you to help you but the truth is that they are busy and they have their own lives to live. They still have things that they need to do, they have things that are important to them, they have family to deal with. Sometimes it will be lonely but God is there and He has your back. This life maybe like a challenge but He will keep you going and He will be there when no one else is, will you trust that and will you keep believing that God has your back?
