Blog 76: CHRISTmas

We all sing songs about Christmas, we hear them on the radio, our children sing songs at the nativity, the carol singers knock on our doors, the nursery children sing them home, the TV has Christmas song completions. There are so many Christmas songs and so much meaning to them that we miss out on them. Each song has almost become ‘normal’ to our ears and we don’t actually think about the words that are being sung and we don’t know what the really meaning is. It is almost auto-pilot that we sing them and we never really look fully into the words. We never really see the real message, we never really see what the words mean and we need to start to. We need to start believing in them as well as just singing them. The words should be as important to us as the tune is and who we are singing them with.

Take this song for example:

”Long time ago in Bethlehem, so the Holy Bible say
Mary’s boy child, Jesus Christ was born on Christmas day

Hark, now hear the Angels singing a newborn King today
And man will live forevermore because of Christmas day
Trumpets sound and Angels singing listen what they say
That Man will live forevermore because of Christmas day

While shepherds watch their flock by night then see
A bright new shining star, then hear a choir sing, her music
Seemed to come from afar, now, Joseph and his wife Mary
Come to Bethlehem that night then find no place
To born she child not a single room was in sight

Hark, now hear the Angels singing a newborn King today
And man will live forevermore because of Christmas day
Trumpets sound and Angels singing listen what they say
That Man will live forevermore because of Christmas day

By and by, they find a little nook in a stable all forlorn
And in a manger cold and dark, Mary’s little Boy was born
Long time ago in Bethlehem, so the Holy Bible say
Mary’s boy child, Jesus Christ was born on Christmas day

Hark, now hear the Angels singing a newborn King today
And man will live forevermore because of Christmas day
Trumpets sound and Angels singing listen what they say
That Man will live forevermore because of Christmas day

What an amazing song! When you read the words like that you really see what Christmas is all about and why people celebrate it all across the world! On Christmas day God entered the world that He had made, not riding on a horse, not in the best car, not with trumpet and sound, not with funfair but through a baby born of a women. Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem, born to a virgin and a man who was a carpenter, a couple who were very poor but had just had the king of the world. Just like people today they didn’t know what their son was going to grow up and be. They knew He was special but they didn’t know how and why! However, we are able to know because we have the Bible that we are able to read and understand. If we are confused then we are able to go to others and to ask them about it and they can help. We can also pray and ask God to open up our eyes to understand and learn more from it.

It is good to see Jesus as the cute little baby in the crib surrounded by his parents but we will never know who this baby is and the real meaning if we do not look at His life. He lead a full-term three year ministry, he was tortured and killed but defeated death and rose again. All because He wanted to save us. He wanted to have a future relationship with us. As in the highlighted sections of the above song we can live forever if we trust Jesus because He was born for us so that 33 years later He would take our pain and sins upon His shoulders. He would suffer, bleed and die for us-Do you know anyone else who would do that for you?

As we think of Christmas don’t take the CHRIST out of Christmas. Think about the man who came as a baby who would then take His life, be killed so that if you trust Him you can live forever with His father and Him at the right hand side in glory and forever!
